A "megabyte" download meter may mean 1,000,000 bytes (SI) or 1,048,576 bytes (IEC). Storage vendors and network tools disagree. Mislabeling confuses capacity planning and customer support.

Quick rule

Disk marketing uses decimal GB. RAM and many system tools use binary GiB. Read the label. Convert explicitly when comparing numbers from two sources.
